THE RIGHT KIND OF STUPID was my debut indie novel. It was a labor of love, as all first novels are, inevitably saying a lot about what said author was feeling or going through at the time of writing. However I filtered that through a somewhat absurd reality of Texas oil wealth and dwarves down on their luck. At its core, TRKOS is about the power of reckless abandon and holding fast to hard-won principles. It sucks you in with complex characters, and finds ways to turn everything and everyone on their heads by the end. While it can be fairly described as somewhat ridiculous, the humor and absurdity serve to aid the slight of hand, and by the end you may find yourself crying, shaking your kindle in the air, surprised that an engrossing and very human drama had snuck its way into the pages by book’s end. I set out to accomplish one thing in this book, to write something that people would put down and say, “I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like it.” From the sounds of things, I accomplished this task. For that reason alone, Cody Latour and his band of misfits, villains and hucksters will always have a special place in my heart.
ANGRY ELF is the first in what I hope to be a series of short stories and novellas singling out moments in the lives of different TRKOS characters. This one is about Winton Chevalier as he struggles with Christmas, identity and self-worth in a most hilarious and raucous fashion.
DEATH POPE is an alternate history where a young man thrust into the position of pope confronts the excesses and evils of his day by becoming a vigilante by night. It has been described as grind house meets historical thriller, and takes one on a character-filled thrill ride through the Vatican and the streets of Rome.
